Chanan Ben Simon is a Brooklyn-based vocal artist, composer, and multimedia performer, originally from Jerusalem and of Moroccan-Jewish descent. His work begins with the voice and expands into new compositions, performance, and media art. Rooted in vocal exploration, Chanan creates immersive sonic worlds that often take the form of abstract vocal music, installation, or experimental opera, but can also emerge as a simple, heartfelt song.

Notable works include The Weather Channel and Fire Heart (TV operas), Telepresence and YAKANTALISA (voice/multimedia pieces), and Toy Store and Party Tears (LPs released under the stage name Ben Simone), presented and performed around the globe.

Chanan also performs improvised and contemporary vocal music, working with composers such as Meredith Monk and Joan La Barbara. He composes for film, dance, and stage, always with the voice at the center of his process.

He holds a B.Mus in composition from the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance and an MFA in Performance & Interactive Media Arts from Brooklyn College. He currently serves as Director of LABA NY, a Jewish text-based artist fellowship at the 14th Street Y.
