“I heard an Echo” is an immersive video and sound installation piece, and a community party inspired by the 1930s Historic Hunterfly Road House!
What do we talk about when we talk about the the past? What does it mean to be “notable?” How can we bring the beauty of the every-day into focus at Weeksville? Historic Weeksville was one of the earliest free black communities to emerge after emancipation in New York State, and it continued as a distinct community through the end of the 19th century. Today, Weeksville Heritage Center is a multidisciplinary museum dedicated to preserving the history of Weeksville. Using a contemporary lens, we activate this unique history through the presentation of innovative, vanguard and experimental programs. On Saturday, May 11th, we invite you to come experience a poetic journey through the installation in the historic house and to enjoy an evening’s events outside in the garden, which will include collaborative crafts and historical games, live music, and traditional food.
